Posted on Tuesday October 13, 2015

On Monday October 12, 2015, City Proclamations were Presented for Retired Educators Day in Georgia and National Hispanic Heritage Month.

During Monday's council meeting on October 12, 2015, city proclamations were presented to Kathy Hill for Retired Educators Day in Georgia, and Rocio Camacho for National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Mayor Tim Thompson presented the Retired Educators Day in Georgia Proclamation.  The retired educators of Georgia donate thousands of hours of volunteer service and make invaluable contributions to the welfare of their respective communities across the state.  It is appropriate that a day be designated for citizens to express their appreciation for the contributions that retired educators have made and continue to make for the betterment of human lives and for society.

Alphonso Thomas, Mayor Pro Tem, presented the National Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation, which is acknowledged from September 15th - October 15th [since year 1988].  Historically, September 15th was chosen as the official start of the month because of the anniversary of independence of the number of Latin American countries.  During National Hispanic Heritage Month, the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture are recognized.
