Voting Information

The City of Stockbridge will hold an Special Election Tuesday, November 8th for the purpose of electing the Mayor to fill the remainder of the four—year vacated term to end 12/31/2017.


City of Stockbridge Charter Requirements (Article II)

  • Candidate must be a resident of the City of Stockbridge for a continuous period of at least 12 months immediately prior to the date of the election;
  • Candidate must continue to reside in the City of Stockbridge during their period of service;
  • Candidate must continue to be registered and qualified to vote in the municipal elections for the City of Stockbridge.

Constitution of the State of Georgia Requirements (Article II, Section II, Paragraph II & III)

  • Citizen of the United States;
  • At least 18 years of age by Election Day;
  • Registered voter in the City of Stockbridge, Georgia;
  • No person who has been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude may register, remain registered, or vote except upon completion of sentence.

Statutory Qualifications (O.C.G.A. § 45-2-1)

  • In order to hold any civil office a person must be a citizen of this state and at least 21 years of age;
  • Not be the holder of any public money due this state or any county who has refused to account for and pay over the same to the proper officer;
  • Have not been convicted of a felony offense involving moral turpitude under the laws of this or any other state unless restored to his rights of citizenship by a pardon from the State Board of Pardons and Paroles;
  • Not hold any office of profit or trust under the government of the United States other than that of postmaster & officers & enlisted men of Armed Forces Reserve (see code section);
  • Not be of unsound mind or unfit to discharge the duties of the office from advanced age or bodily infirmity;
  • Be an inhabitant of the state, county, district, or circuit for the period required by the Constitution and laws of this state.

Qualifying Fee

Notice is hereby given that the City of Stockbridge, GA shall hold a Municipal Special Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 to elect a Mayor. The Qualifying Fee for Mayor is $324.00.

 Candidates may qualify beginning Wednesday, July 13, 2016 and Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. and Friday, July 15, 2016 from 8:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. The Clerk’s office will close each day from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. for lunch.

          Pursuant to Article III, § V, Paragraph IX of the Constitution of the State of Georgia and O.C.G.A. § 28-1-14, notice is hereby given that there will be introduced at the Regular 2016 Session of the General Assembly of Georgia local legislation providing for a revised Charter for the City of Stockbridge; to provide for any and all matters relative to the foregoing; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

Update: Senate Bill 362 was signed by Governor Deal hereby amending the City's Charter to call for a Special Election in the event of a vacancy by the Mayor or Council Member with (6) six months or more remaining in their term of office. The Mayoral Election will be determined by Majority Vote (50% +). The Council Member Special Election will remain by Plurality (Highest number of votes). The 2016 Special Election to fill the Mayor's vacancy will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Voter Registration forms are available at Stockbridge City Hall, through the Henry County Board of Elections and Registration, or through the Georgia Secretary of State. You can also pick up a form at your public library, Tag Office, or when you get your driver’s license.

Absentee Ballots (Ballot my Mail) will be mailed out 22 days prior to the Municipal Election. No absentee ballot shall be issued or mailed out on the day prior to an election. No absentee ballot shall be voted on the day of an election, except in the case of a voter confined to the hospital to whom the registrars have delivered an absentee ballot and the voter has voted it then and there. An absentee ballot, which has been voted prior to the day of the election, may be mailed to the registrars on the day of the election, but will not be counted unless it is received by the registrar’s office by 7:00pm the day of the election.
