STOCKBRIDGE, GEORGIA- March 7 , 2019--- The Stockbridge Main Street Program hosted a city wide send-off on Monday, February 25, 2019 for the Georgia Air National Guard's first African-American female pilot, 1st Lieutenant Andrea Lewis.  The trailblazer pilot was deployed shortly after the Stockbridge event. Stockbridge City Hall was filled with area residents who enjoyed ice cream and cake to celebrate the pioneering achievements of Lewis. She received an official letter of commendation from the City of Stockbridge for her outstanding efforts.

A graduate of University of Georgia, 1st  Lieutenant Andrea Lewis was inspired by her parents to begin a career in aviation. She started her military career as a flight attendant for the 73rd Airlift Squadron at Scott Air Force Base in 2010. She supported missions transporting congressional delegates and other notable leaders. She would go on to earn her pilot's license and instrument rating. In 2017, Lewis successfully completed the Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Program. Her identical twin sister is a teacher at the City of Stockbridge's partner school, Stockbridge Elementary.

"First Lieutenant Andrea Lewis is an awesome example of how hard work and determination can be the key to fulfilling one’s dreams, " said Kira Harris-Braggs, Stockbridge Main Street Program Manager. " Stockbridge is where community connects.  So, it was the Stockbridge Main Street Program’s great pleasure to honor this pioneer servicewoman and connect to a person who is an excellent role model for our city’s children and adults alike.” "Through my travels, I get to give back and help young people achieve their dreams, " said First Lieutenant Andrea Lewis.
